A tiny mountainous country Nepal is the second richest country in water resources in the world after Brazil. The loftiest Himalayas, tranquil lakes, splashing rivers, rushing torrents, incessant springs etc. are the great sources of water in Nepal. Multi-dozens of perennial rivers originate from the panoramic mountains and flow down providing endless of rafting, fishing, irrigating and immense hydropower potential. Similarly, many a non-perennial river does emerge during rainy season, plying a huge source for irrigating the farmland. The prime rivers in Nepal are:- tha Koshi, in the east, the biggest with its seven tributaries viz-Arun, Tamor, Dudhakoshi, Likhu, Indrawati, Sunkoshi, and Tamakoshi. So, it is entitled as the Sapta Koshi.Similarly, The Gandaki in the middle known as the Sapta Gandaki does also consist seven tributaries like:- Kaligandaki, Trishuli, Budhigandaki, Daraudi, Seti, Madi and Marshyandi.Likewise, the longest river in Nepal the Karnali flows down in the western part of Nepal. It is guessed that the total hydropower potential of the Nepalese rivers is approximately 83,000 megawatt. It is in fact an incredibly huge amount. However, only a handful percent electricity of the total potentiality has been generated so far. Surprisingly, the Nepalesepeople are paying the most expensive rate electricity. It is a matter of great shame and misfortune.
The rivers can be used in various sectors such as :- generating electricity, irrigation, etc. which contributes a crucial role in the all round development of a mountainous country like ours. Moreever, Tourism can fluorish, for the fabled water falls; tranquil lakes, eye-catching springs,etc. hypnotize the lovebirds, naturalists and even the pessimists. So, they do develop tourists craze to get lost in glamour of the nature by swimmimg, boating, rafting, fishing,etc.Similarly, the rivers are used to supply drinking water, cooking and other daily usage. Further they are used for regional or international boundaries for political and administrative purpose. These are the reasons why the rivers are of the vital importance.
On the other hand, rivers sometimes becomes a bitter curse. They are often over-flooded in the rainy season and ruin the entire fields house on their on their banks. So, hundreds of thousands of people lose their lives. Further, great many hectors of fertile lands are swept away. They also do cause the devastating landslides or erosion when they are over-flooded.
Despite these all, these rivers have been heavenly boon for the Nepalese people. Every year thousands of tourists from all over the world visit make visit to Nepal to enjoy and relax in the God-gifted beautiful rivers of Nepal. They also get chance to feel the adventure of the rivers by involving in various activities like:-swimming, rafting, boating, fishing,etc. So, undoubtly, when you will visit Nepal then you will fall in love with natural beauties of Nepal.
